“Kochanski Zieba Rapala & Partners is a Polish independent firm with offices in Warsaw, Kraków and Lublin. Apart from Poland, the firm is also active in Slovak Republic, Sweden and Ukraine. In 2013 the firm has been busy in disputes, corporate restructuring, private equity and funds, project development, concessions and tax. It has served clients in the gas, power, renewable energy, defence, energy, industry and manufacturing sectors.

Magdalena Mitas is head of the firm’s energy law practice. She advises on all matters related to conventional and renewable energy investments such as wind farms, biogas, hydro power plants, fossil-fuel power stations and coal and coke plant investments. Piotr Galuszynski is another prominent lawyer at the firm and joined from White & Case at the end of 2012. He is an expert in project finance.

Kochanski Zieba Rapala & Partners is a member of independent law firm networks such as Mackrell International and International Lawyers Network. It is also on the energy and infrastructure panels of companies such as SEKAB Biofuels & Chemicals, SIAC Construction, CJR Wind and Blue Energy. “It adjusted to us,” one client says. “It’s not like we adjusted to a big law firm, and that is a nice feeling.”

The firm acted for Siac Construction, a UK infrastructure and construction company, in an investment arbitration dispute against the Poland under the Polish-UK Bilateral Investment Treaty. The dispute is concerned with the Polish Motorways Construction Programme. It also advised the IKEA group and its Polish subsidiaries – Swedspan and Swedwood – on energy and environmental protection issues related to greenfield investments. This included the construction of a production plant in Orla, near Bialystok in Poland – the largest project conducted by IKEA group in the country”.
