We joined United Legals for Good to bring Poland closer to a global circular economy
Unfortunately, the depletion of resources and associated climate change are clearly visible and tangible processes. Therefore, the question is no longer whether or when businesses should respond to these challenges, but how.
And we are already working on specific solutions. Because today, the only answer is action. This must be systematic and bold, and above all based on laws that will drive positive transformation.
That is why we have joined the United Legals for Good initiative, created by the United Nations Global Compact Network Poland, in order to support positive change in the world. Rest assured that this is not just another membership; it is a conscious decision to take on a leadership role in an area that will define sustainable business for decades to come.
Laws that aim to serve people and the planet
United Legals for Good is a unique coalition of law firms and consulting companies committed to the UN’s 2030 Agenda.
Its mission is simple yet significant: to use the knowledge, authority and experience of the participating lawyers to develop proposals for sound legislation that will help Poland achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and implement key United Nations conventions and standards.
We are taking on the role of national leader in the areas of the circular economy and extended producer responsibility (EPR), and will support the development of both good practices and the most transparent processes possible. This is a natural choice for us, given that we have been working closely with innovative, environmentally conscious companies for years.
We don’t want merely to observe the transformation. On the contrary, we intend to create and actively moderate it, says Agnieszka Chilmon.
Taking on a leadership role in the circular economy is a significant commitment, but also a huge opportunity. It will enable us to make a real impact on the regulations that will shape the Polish economy for decades to come, while providing our clients with unique insights and tools to develop the businesses of the future. Those that are resilient, innovative and genuinely sustainable, emphasises the expert from our Infrastructure, Energy, Environmental Protection and ESG Practice and project ambassador.
Responsibility in a closed loop – an interesting niche for Polish business
Extended producer responsibility (EPR) represents a fundamental shift in the way we think about product lifecycles.
According to this concept, responsibility for manufactured goods extends from the design and prototyping stages to the point at which the packaging and device become waste, rather than ending with the product being placed on a shop shelf or in a rubbish bin.
In practice, this means that companies placing products on the market become key players in the waste management system. This model represents much more than a new obligation. It is a powerful mechanism that:
- Shifts the costs of waste management from municipalities and residents to those who have a real impact on its generation
- Motivates innovation by encouraging the design of products that are more durable and easier to repair and recycle
- Builds the foundations for a circular economy, in which waste becomes a valuable raw material
- Supports the achievement of climate goals by minimising the negative impact of economic activity on our planet
Implementing EPR is a complex process that requires not only an understanding of the regulations, but also a strategic redesign of business models. However, this is precisely the kind of involvement we want as a partner to both the administration and the entire market, emphasises Agnieszka Chilmon.
Circular economy – how we support leaders of change
Our participation in the United Legals for Good initiative guarantees our place at the heart of events shaping the new regulatory environment. And this means tangible benefits for our clients, including:
- Proactive advice from a partner who is involved in shaping the law and is closest to every change, even before it becomes binding legislation
- Assistance in transforming new legal, financial and reporting obligations into strategic advantages closely linked to a company’s business objectives
- Support in ESG strategy and strengthening of competencies in non-financial reporting, responsible supply chains and the implementation of sustainable development projects
The law that shapes the future
We firmly believe that the best way to predict the future is to create it. That is why joining United Legals for Good and taking on a leading role in such a crucial area is more than just a project for us. It is an affirmation of our identity.
Because we have always worked for those who are not afraid of challenges. And with those who, like us, want to leave the world in a better state than they found it.
Now, louder than ever, we are talking about a future that should serve not only business, but also our planet.
