We advised Johnson Matthey on its greenfield investments

Johnson Matthey is a global leader in metals chemistry and process engineering, whose mission is to support the transition towards a green future for our planet. The company is committed to being a driving force for a positive transition, and aims to support four key areas of a sustainable future by reducing transport emissions, decarbonising the energy and chemical industries and creating a circular economy. We advised on its two most significant greenfield investments in Poland.

An (even) greener Poland

Two advanced manufacturing plants are set to be soon built in Konin and Gliwice.

These are high-budget projects underpinned by cutting-edge technologies and innovative technical solutions.

The Gliwice plant, which will produce some of the world’s most advanced catalytic converters, is the largest investment of its kind in the Silesian Province, covering over 23,000 square metres. The project will cost nearly half a billion zlotys.

Situated on a 43-hectare site, the facility in Konin will be the only commercial factory producing advanced materials for electric vehicle batteries. Representatives of the investor have stated that investment in the Konin project will total almost one billion zlotys.

We support a mission aimed at making the world cleaner and healthier

We advised Johnson Matthey PLC during the project planning, property purchase and project implementation phases.

Our support also included:

  • Transaction advisory services
  • Property and environmental matters
  • State aid
  • Permitting process
  • Tax
  • Investment protection
  • Corporate advisory services

The transaction team was led by Paweł Cholewiński.

Johnson Matthey’s investments in Poland are exceptional in terms of their scale and significance for both our economy and the global energy transition. We are honoured to have advised on the construction of the Gliwice plant, the largest investment of its kind in the Silesian Province, as well as on the establishment of the only commercial factory producing materials for electric vehicle batteries in Konin. These complex, multi-stage projects involved site selection, land purchase, environmental issues, the permitting process, state aid and investment protection issues, requiring the involvement of experts from many areas of law. We are delighted to have supported Johnson Matthey in achieving its mission and to have contributed to building a greener future for Poland, says Paweł Cholewiński.
